Celebration of Music - Talent Search

Royal Rhapsody is a small singing group originating from South Prairie School of Minot. The group was started less than two years ago as a way for students who want to be involved in unique performance experiences beyond those offered in the in-school music curriculum to expand their musical horizons. The group fosters the concepts of teamwork and of expanding beyond one’s comfort zones in order to create performances that are enjoyed and valued by both audience and performers.

Royal Rhapsody currently consists of five members. They are: Kamryn Morrison, 15; Annika Huesers, 14; Kylee Morrison, 13; Annaliese Rauschenberger, 13; and Julia Mata, 13. The group prides itself on being made up of a collection of diverse individuals, each with their own unique personalities, interests, and musical influences. Besides being musicians, group members are also athletes, academics, actors, artists, and much more. Yet, the members’ differences ripple in a positive way through their joint efforts, and this group of distinct characters works exceedingly well as a team. They recognize that the group succeeds only when individuals use their particular talents to the benefit of the group as a whole.

The current group membership has been singing together for less than a year, but they have really seemed to find their sound and come into their own in the last few months. The group thrives on variety, and they sing a bit of everything, from 1960’s pop to modern a capella. Practices with this group can be a real hoot, as they are funny and feisty and full of ideas. It is especially gratifying to watch them as they learn new sounds and harmonies, as the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment they feel shows clearly on their faces.

Royal Rhapsody hopes to keep its momentum going in the upcoming school year and beyond. They hope that this year their growing reputation for excellence will provide them with opportunities to participate in community events, variety shows, show choir competitions, and more. The group is so excited at the prospect of performing for the Celebration of Music!It has provided them with motivation and inspiration, and shown them that there are opportunities out there beyond what they initially imagined.
